Torre del Lago, venue of Puccini’s festival, is located between Massaciuccoli Lake and Tirreno sea, 4km from Viareggio beaches and 18km from Lucca and Pisa. This little town is one of the top destinations for Opera’s lovers and for those wishing to visit the places of the most beloved composer of the 20th century. It was Puccini desire to show in front of Massaciuccoli lake for its wonderful natural stage but only in 1930 thanks to Forzano (director and poet-writer ) and Pietro Mascagni, (Puccini’s conservatory classmate), and after Puccini’s death, that the theatre in front of Puccini’s house started. In 1966 the Open Air Theatre was built in front of the Massaciuccoli Lake, the landscape and the lights from the nearby villages adorn the big theatre set creating suggestive performances.
